Elephant Incident at Lansing

On 26 September, 1963, a twelve years old 3000 pound female dancing elephant, whose name was ‘Rajje’ rebelled against trainer while having performance in a shopping centre circus. Near it was Logan Street and Holmes road in Lansing and escaped in streets, here around four thousand local residents arrived. Inspired by growing crowd, Rajje’s rampage took through men’s wear, sporting goods and gift departments of local Arlan’s discount store.

Parades Festivals

Each year in August month, the Michigan festival includes LGBT pride parade from riverfront Park to capitol. The Capital City African American Cultural Association celebrates African American Parade and Heritage Festival every year. The chair of CCAACA is Dr. Michael C. Murphy and was pastor of St. Stephen’s Community Church and is at present pastor of people Congregational, United Church of Christ, Washington, D.C.

The parade highlights African American culture and also recognizes prominent African American individuals available in community and also their contributions in Lansing grand marshal of every parade. Museums of Lansing

Lansing has number of small museums. They are as follows-

  • The R.E. Olds Transportation Museum is dedicated for education of role of Lansing in development of transportation, especially automobile
  • The Turner Dodge House is a museum which is dedicated to early pioneers of Lansing. The museum resides in the Classical Revival styles Turner dodge Mansion, which was built in year 1858 for James and Marion Turner.
  • The Impression 5 Science centre is a children’s science centre which is located at historic wagon works factory on Grand River.
  • The Michigan Library as well as Historical centre have one of the tenth largest genealogy collections in nation. It has museums dedicated to Michigan’s history along with other attractions.
  • Michigan Women Hall of fame is a museum dedicated to historical achievements of Michigan women.
