4 ways to check your PF balance online and offline

The Employee Provident Fund is a government scheme that helps you secure your post-retirement years. It involves a regular investment on a monthly basis as part of your salary and contains a contribution by your employer as well.

However, over the course of your employment you may have lost track of your PF account. So, are wondering how to check your PF balance? It’s simple; just follow one of these 4 methods.

Visit the EPFO online portal

Before you make use of any of the methods to check your PF balance, a crucial piece of information to have is your Universal Account Number or UAN. This is a number that the EPFO assigns to you, which requires verification and activation by your employer. Using your UAN, follow these simple steps to check your PF balance.

  • Visit epfindia.gov.in.
  • Click on the ‘For Employees’ link found under ‘Our Services’.
  • Then click on ‘Member Passbook’.
  • You will be prompted to enter your UAN and password, do so and login.

You will now have access to your PF passbook, on which your total balance and other details will be clearly mentioned.

Use the EPFO smartphone application

Using your smartphone, you can access your PF passbook via the ‘M-sewa’ app offered by the EPFO. This app is available on the Google Play Store. After you’ve downloaded it, you can follow these easy steps

  • Click on ‘Member’.
  • Then click on the ‘Balance/Passbook’ button.
  • You’ll be promoted to enter your UAN and mobile number. Enter the details and log in.

Following these steps, you will get access to your PF passbook right on your smartphone.

Give a missed call

If an online solution isn’t your cup of tea, fret not, as you can also access your PF passbook via a missed call. All you have to do is call 011-22901406 from your registered mobile number and the details of your PF account will be sent to you as an SMS.

It is important to ensure your UAN is seeded with your PAN, Aadhaar and bank account number beforehand. To seed your details, you will have to raise a request with your employer. Recently, EPFO has made this process very accessible. Once your employer initiates the process, you will just have to verify the seeding using the OTPs you receive and within a few working days the entire configuration will be set.

Send an SMS

Similarly, when using the SMS feature, ask your employer to seed your particulars with your UAN. Following this you can access your PF passbook by simply sending a message from your registered phone number to 7738299899. The content of this message should be EPFOHO UAN ENG.

The ENG in this message is interchangeable as it denotes the language you want to use the service in. To avail of this service in any other language, simply replace ENG with the first 3 letters of the language. For example, send EPFOHO UAN KAN for Kannada.
