What is GRE test and discuss its various sections

The GRE is referring as Graduate Record Examinations, and it is the standardised test.

Overview of the GRE test:-

The GRE test divided into mainly three sections. The analytical writing section always comes first. The remaining two sections are the Verbal and Quantitative sections and may appear in any order and may include unrated and research sections. Students can take the GRE test on paper or a computer. The time of the GRE test will vary depending on the version of the test the student take and the possible presence of non-screened research sections but plan to reserve at least three hours. If the student ends up taking the paper version of the GRE, the student should expect to spend a little more time at the testing centre. The paper version has a total of four sections: – two verbal and two quantitative parts. Same in the computer version of the test, the GRE paper test may also include a non-scoring section. Each student begins with questions of medium difficulty. Every time student enters an answer, the computer scores it without any delay, compares it with their previous answers and then presents a question appropriate for the student level. If the student answer is correct, then the questions become harder. The wrong answers make the next question a little less complicated.

GRE Exam

The GRE test is a 3-hour and 45-minute test, and it is present by computer. While the GRE is also available in pencil and paper format in some countries, only the computer-delivered version is available in India. The GRE test has six sections with a break of 10 minutes after the third section.

  1. Analytical Writing: This section deals with two writing tasks of timed tests separately. It measures analytical and critical thinking skills as reflected in the writing styles of the test-work. Both functions do not require prior knowledge of any exact content, but they do expect that the examinees have an active and severe writing style without significant grammatical or spelling errors. The AWA score is noted down on a scale of 0 to 6 in half-point increments.
  2. Verbal reasoning section is having 20 questions per section. The Reading Comprehension, Sentence Equivalence and Text Completion questions aim to at measuring the power of the word, the critical reasoning and the comprehension skills of the examiner. The examinees must work not only on the vocabulary but also need strategies to address these questions. The score of this section is noted down on a scale of 130-170 in 1-point increments.
  3. Quantitative reasoning section contains 20 questions per section. Basic math skills and elementary concepts of algebra, arithmetic and geometry is testing in this particular section. Multiple-choice, numeric entry and quantitative comparison questions need fast thinking and sound application skills that need focused preparation. The score in this section is noted down on a scale of 130-170 in 1-point increments.
